New
china for the Ager House
It has
long been a dream of the members of the Ager Association to
purchase good china that could be used for special occasions
at the Ager House. The opportunity to do so came about this
summer when producers of Porsgrund porcelain put the selected
pattern on sale for a limited time.
It became
a reality when Dawn Bergstrom, owner of Scandinavian Imports
in downtown Eau Claire, offered to match Porsgrund’s fifteen
per cent discount with another fifteen per cent discount from
her store. With thirty per cent off of the regular price, the
purchase of forty lovely dinner plates and cups was accomplished.
Donations
from members and memorials to the “Dishes”
fund over the years were extremely important in making this
acquisition possible. “Thank you” to everyone who
helped realize another of the dreams for the Ager House.
Since
the “Dishes”
fund has been depleted with this purchase, it was not possible
to buy other pieces of the pattern right now. However, Ms. Bergstrom
has promised that purchases of additional Porsgrund porcelain
by the Association during the sale next year will receive the
same discount given by Scandinavian Imports in 2007, so as the
fund is replenished, more plates, cups, saucers, dessert plates,
and serving pieces can be purchased and will help the Porsgrund
china become one of the pleasures of life at the Ager House.

The
Porsgrund pattern, Fasett, was chosen for the Ager House china
by the Board of Directors at the June meeting.
Porsgrund
is the main producer of porcelain flatware and products
for Norway’s Royal Family and has been for three generations.
The Porsgrund factory is located in the state of Telemark and
the area of Grenland on the banks of the Porsgrunn River in
Norway. Porsgrund china took its name from a small island in
the river, which was overgrown with shrub (pors), and the Norwegian
word for ground (grunn). The company began producing products
in 1887, when its first firing took place and still uses its
original “recipes.”
