Syttende Mai, 2008

Eau Claire's Norwegian community celebrated Syttende Mai, the Norwegian independence day, at the Lake Street Methodist Church, 337 Lake Street, Eau Claire. The event was sponsored in part by the Waldemar Ager Association. Remembering and celebrating Norwegian heritage was always a cause close to Waldemar ager's heart.

Participants marched down Lake Sreet and Fourth Avenue with a brass band, and enjoyed the playing of the Eau Claire Youth Spellmanslag, under the direction of Earl Holzman. Ager Association president Ken Ziehr was Master of Ceremonies, and Tim Hirsch introduced the main speaker, author David Wood.

On the menu was such traditional Norwegian fare as meatballs, torsk, and a table laden with cakes. Photos from the event below.
